Swanlund Endowed Chair: William T. Greenough

William T. Greenough is Swanlund Chair and Center for Advanced Study Professor of Psychology, Psychiatry, and Cell and Developmental Biology.  He currently is Director of the Center for Advanced Study.  Professor Greenough received his A.B. degree from the University of Oregon and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from UCLA.  Professor Greenough studies the effects of experience (including physical exercise) and learning on the structure and function of the mammalian brain.  He also studies mechanisms of developmental neuropathology and therapeutic approaches to disorders.  Professor Greenough is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.  He has received the American Psychological Society’s William James Award, the American Psychological Association’s Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award, and the Society for Research into Child Development’s (SRCD) Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award.
