Swanlund Endowed Chair: Nina Baym

Nina Baym is Swanlund Chair and Center for Advanced Study Professor English Emerita, and Jubilee Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences.  She served as the Director of the School of Humanities in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and has been awarded Guggenheim and National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowships, as well as an honorary fellowship from the American Association of University Women.  Professor Baym has published widely on American literary topics, especially ante-bellum literature, women’s writing, and American fiction.  She has written 8 books and  published over 130 book reviews and 65 scholarly articles.  Professor Baym is General Editor of the Norton Anthology of American Literature and has received the Jay Hubbell Medal for lifetime contributions to advancing the study of American Literature from the Modern Language Association.
