Swanlund Endowed Chair: Klaus Schulten

Klaus Schulten is Swanlund Chair, University Scholar and Professor of Physics.  He received his B.A. from the University of Muenster, Germany and his Ph.D. from Harvard University.  His professional interests are theoretical physics and theoretical biology.  Professor Schulten’s current research focuses on the structure and function of supramolecular systems in the living cell, as well as on the development of non-equilibrium statistical mechanical descriptions and efficient computing tools for structural systems biology.  He is the founder of the internationally recognized Theoretical and Computational Biophysics Group and the National Center for Biomolecular Modeling and Bioinformatics.  Professor Schulten is a Fellow of the Institute of Advanced Studies, Parker, and American Physical Society and a recipient of the Ludwig-Schaefer Award and Nerst Prize.
