Swanlund Endowed Chair: Daniel Sullivan

Daniel Sullivan is Swanlund Chair and Professor of Theatre.  He is one of the leading stage directors in the United States, recently winning the Tony Award for his Broadway production of Proof.  Professor Sullivan has received four other Tony Award nominations for Morning’s at Seven, The Heidi Chronicles, Conversations with My Father, and The Sisters Rosensweig.  He has served as artistic director of the Seattle Repertory Company, where he premiered plays by Herb Gardner, Wendy Wasserstein, Jon Robin Baitz, Neil Simon, Arthur Miller and many others.  Professor Sullivan has directed the recent Broadway productions of Ah, Wilderness! and A Moon for the Misbegotten as well as the off-Broadway premieres of Proof, Spinning into Butter, and Ten Unknowns.  He is the recipient of the Drama League’s Hansen Award and the Outer Critics Outstanding Director of a Play Award.  For the past two years, Sullivan has directed the Pulitzer Prize winning plays Dinner with Friends and Proof.
