Swanlund Endowed Chair: Benita Katzenellenbogen
Benita Katzenellenbogen is Swanlund Chair and Center for Advanced Study Professor of Molecular and Integrative Physiology. She addresses fundamental issues in her scholarly work in cell biology, investigates the structure and function of steroid hormone receptors which recently involved development of selective hormonal agents for menopausal hormone replacement and breast cancer treatment and prevention and is interested in applying research discoveries to practical problems. Professor Katzenellenbogen has published over 250 research articles, contributed 30 book chapters and co-edited a text on hormone-dependent cancers. She has received numerous awards, honors and special fellowships including the MERIT Award, the Jill Rose Award, the Ernst Oppenheimer Award, the Roy O. Greep Lecture Award, and a Distinguished Scientist Award. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and recently served as president of The Endocrine Society.
